An In Depth Report On The Hotel Bareiss – Relais & Châteaux Member
This is an in-depth report on the Hotel Bareiss which is a Relais & Châteaux Member. We have received a lot of really great feedback from our last State of the Industry Report. And at the same time, we could improve a couple of new web pages from that report and help some clients out with SEO.
With this reports, we do not want to make fun of anyone in the Hospitality industry. All we want is that people get more aware of the mistakes they are doing when it comes to their online presence.
We totally understand that you as the Owner of a Boutique Hotel do not have time to take care of your online presence. At the end of the day, you have a full Boutique Hotel operation to run.
You probably hired a design company to create your web page. This design company apparently made a good job. But let me ask you one thing. Is the design company you hired specialised in Boutique Hotels as we are?
What we want to achieve with Resort Huub. Is to serve you the Boutique Hotel owner and work with you as partners on your online presence and on your online marketing efforts.
Why The Hotel Bareiss?
It’ s simple, we went to the Relais & Châteaux web page. Then we went to Germany and started to check each Boutique Hotel after the next. And unfortunately or fortunately the Hotel Bareiss is the first Hotel where we say. Their online presence is absolutely out of date and they need some help.
The thing is and we believe very strongly in it. Is that their online presence does not at all reflect the great service which the Hotel Bareiss is offering to their guests.
We see it actually quite often. Boutique Hotels are offline Top and online a Flop…This is actually quite sad to see because there are so many Boutique Hotels with amazing venues, rooms and service. But they forget that the service is already starting with their online presence…
We will first start with some technical data. And then we go over to the design itself and how well they are doing on social media.
Let’s Get Started
We are going to use Ahrefs to show you some data, we are going to use Google and our Eyes. The data which we get from Ahrefs will be touched only on the surface. Because this report should not be too technical and easy to understand.
The first thing what we noticed is that their web page address is not properly configured.
While for many people this might by unseen, but when we talk about SEO. The web page address should be https://www.bareiss.com and that’s it.
This is something very easy to fix, and the owner itself can actually do it. The good things is, that the Hotel has an SSL certificate which you can see on the https.
Let us explain what you can see in the above Image. I know it looks confusing but at the end of the day, it is not that difficult to understand.
Ahrefs Rank: Does not concern us.
UR: “URL Rating” measures the strength of a target URL’s backlink profile and the likelihood that the URL will rank high in Google.
DR: “Domain Rating” shows the strength of a given website’s overall backlink profile.
Backlinks: How many backlinks the Domain has.
Referring domains: How many domains are linking back to the website.
Organic keywords: For how many Keywords does this website rank for.
Organic traffic: How many total websites visit the website has in total.
Traffic value: Does not concern us.
What we see in the graphic above, are the Anchor terms. This are words which are getting used to link back to the website. And the distribution is not really great. We see that www.bareiss.com is getting used 156 times but we see not only one Anchor term for the word Hotel im Schwarzwald.
The graphic here shows the strength of the URLs which are linking back to the main URL. We can clearly see that the URLs which are linking back. Are not that powerful to give the website the right stamina.
What we can see that the Hotel does not rank well for terms which people are using in Google. When we go to Google.de and start typing ”Hotel Im Schwarzwald” we get many suggestions from Google and Ideally it should rank for those terms. But unfortunately, it does not rank for any of those suggested terms.
Speed & Mobile Ready
The good news first. The web page is mobile friendly and it performs well on the speed test. Below are both screenshots of the tests.
Now when it comes to Google Mobile ready. What Google Checks, are actually the speed and the technical aspects of the webpage. It does not check the website for the design. All it want’s to see is that the webpage performs certain metrics and if the webpage is mobile responsive.
But we as the Human we can clearly see, that the website looks very ugly on a mobile. Do the test for yourself now, open the website on your mobile and then write an E-mail back to me. At [email protected] and tell me if you like the look and feel of the website on your mobile?
Here we will check the overall Design of the webpage. How easy is it to navigate, does the design represent this Boutique Hotel?
We will tackle each point one by one. But from the first look at the webpage, it looks very cheap and unprofessional.
1. Nice looking picture. But what does it represent? I would not know that this is the Hotel Bareiss just from this picture.
2. Navigation Bar is totally lost here. The colour is really bad, actually, the whole website feels like a military page.
3. The background. What does it represent? We have in front a picture with Snow and in the back a picture from the Jungle.
4. Not sure why the hart is there.
5. This is the fold of the website. What we can see is that we have no real information about the fold. Where is the direct bookings button?
6. The Logo of the Hotel Bareiss is just below the fold. No shine, no glamour it is just sitting there.
7. Not sure what that should be? After clicking on them it is actually kind of a guide on some special locations.
8. The Footer of is just bad. Low-quality graphics, the Facebook logo is very difficult to see.
9. The only one logo from the whole webpage which has some colour. Actually when you click on it, the webpage just reloades.
10. The search box is in the Footer, ideally, it should be on top.
This is how the Home page looks like when you click on the menu on top. In this case, we went to the Rooms section, I might want to think that they want to make the experience very complicated.
It is not at all attractive to browse through the website. And if you think this is bad, I would suggest taking a look at your mobile.
And to this day I still could not find where the direct booking button is?
This amazing Family owned Boutique Hotel has even a Restaurant with 3 Michelin Stars! But can you find any information on the Home Page about it?
The problem here is that the whole web page is built without any direction. It feels sometimes the information is here just because someone wants the information to be there.
They even have an online shop on the web page. But shopping there is not really that pleasant. Same goes for the spa, arrangements and the Restaurants.
This short in-depth report of the Hotel Bareiss is showing us clearly where the Hotel is falling short. Don’t get me wrong the Boutique Hotel of the Family Bareiss is an amazing place and the Service is 5 Star. It has a long tradition and belongs to one of the best Family owned Hotels in Europe.
But where they miss the point is in their online presence. Did you see any Instagram indication? I found it on a couple of pages later…This is what we want to show with the report. That many Boutique Hotels are missing the point with their website, it is like 1996. When the internet was just born for the most of us.
Social Media and having an amazing website are the keys to moving forward. The world is changing and I truly hope that more Boutique Hotels will catch on. Otherwise, they will be dominated by their rivals.
